This lecture will outline the post-war settlement and the argument that Thatcherism marks a significant rupture in consensus politics. It will ask who was Margaret Thatcher and why does her name describe a political approach? This lecture will discuss whether Thatcherism can be viewed as a coherent political ideology and outline the ways in which historians and commentators have generally understood it.
